People's Hall

Erected in 1845, People's Hall was established as a free hall where all people were free to discuss every subject - "religion, morals, physics, politics or the like, irrespective of clime, cast, sex, sect, or party."
The motto of the People's Hall is:
"Let Truth and Error grapple"

The Village of Ercildoun

Ercildoun's historical significance is rooted in social involvement and humanitarianism because of its importance to the Abolitionist Movement.  This hamlet in south eastern Chester County was active on two levels:  political protest and participation in the Underground Railroad.  The People's Hall and its members were participants in both.
